Most people don’t know I’m writing this blog. Most people don’t know I’m writing at all. That I want to be a writer and publish a book.

I don’t exactly go around bragging “Look at me I’m a writer.” Not a chance.

I’m content with this fact.

We.Are.Family. Get up everybody and sing!

Ok, I’m feeling a bit silly today and the beautiful badge which I received from the Starving Activist just reminded me of this song “We Are Family” by SISTER SLEDGE.

Daily Prompt: Goals

When you started your blog, did you set any goals? Have you achieved them? Have they changed at all?

When I started this blog I didn’t really think about this site as anything more than my practice notebook. I saw this page as a place where I could polish my writing skills and publish my answers to Writers Write Daily Prompts. I didn’t imagine that this blog would evolve into anything other than an anonymous space in enormous world wide web, a scrapbook of sorts.

However, I was surprised how quickly I abandoned my initial thoughts and intentions and allowed myself to be carried away by blogosphere. I quickly started noticing the statistics and hungrily look for new likes, comments, followers…

Nowadays I am always excited when I log in and check my blog. I look forward to seeing that little window blinking at me with a happy message – something changed in your statistics from yesterday, you got new like/comment/follower. It really makes me happy. I no longer write only for myself, there are actually people who would like to read my writings.

So to answer the question: no I did not set any goals for this blog in the beginning, therefore I could not achieve them. Yes the goals have changed recently. Now I would like to continue writing. Keep my current followers interested and gain new ones. I also look forward to any piece of advice, constructive critique or simple “you’re doing great, keep it up” from you guys :). Feedback is always welcome and much appreciated.

What is more, I have set my first goal for this blog.

I would like to gather a number of 100 followers. Why 100? I have a very close friend who supports my writings and always asks when will I write a book so she can read it. She is cheering for me, and frankly she is the only person who even knows about my passion. I want to show her this blog and tell her that in the meantime, waiting for the big break and me writing finally some solid piece, she can read some of my musings here and get the idea how and if I evolve. That’s my goal for future months. I’m looking forward to fulfilling it.

The Liebster Award Nomination #2 – A Thank You

I’m sending the biggest thank you to Running After Ale for granting me my second nomination. I’m very grateful and very happy! 🙂

Here are my answers to 11 questions:

1- Where is your next vacation going to be?

Somewhere warm and sunny hopefully… But on the other hand I’m not the type to lie down on the beach for the whole day so I would like to be able to sightsee and get to know new customs and cultures.

2- What are you having for dinner tonight?

Cottage cheese with chive and red bell pepper. Let’s keep it light, shall we? 😉

3- What is your favorite time of year?
It’s spring – I just love how everything is awaking to the world after the long winter slumber. First flowers budding out of the frosty soil, first green leaves…

4- If you could quit your job right now because you just won the lottery what would you tell your boss?
The time I spent here, almost two years, was invaluable. I learned a lot and got to know really amazing people. I will remember this place with joy. I would like to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to try my strength at something entirely out of my scope of studies and expertise. Thanks to you I was able to test my skills to the limits. However, in order to grow and develop we have to move forward in our life. I decided it is time for a change. Once again I thank you for this past months and wish you all the best.

5- Why did you start blogging?
I first thought of a blog as a sort of a scrapbook, notebook, notepad, whatever you want to call it. I thought I would exercise daily my writing skills and nobody would even know or notice it. Well, you probably can imagine how well it all turned out, don’t you? 😉

6- What is your favorite color?
A cliché but it’s blue. I don’t know why. It’s not my eye color or anything associated with me personally. Maybe because the sky is blue and it’s the most amazing thing on Earth that we can gaze upon and not have to pay?

7- How many brothers and sisters do you have?
None. I’m an only child, though people tend to say that I don’t act and look like a spoiled brat so how come it’s just me ;). I guess I grew up with lots of friends and family surrounding me so I did not become too capricious.

8- What is your favorite movie?
And that’s at tie between at least a million of various movies. I like fact paced, action packed movies, movies that have a deeper meaning, I like comedies but not the romantic ones. I adore animations and I enjoy watching TV shows, perhaps even more then the movies itself. If I have to name one that I turn back and can watch again and again it will have to be Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Green Street Hooligans (just because of Charlie Hunnam ;)).

9- Have you ever ridden a motorcycle?
Nope. But given the opportunity I would try it.

10- Do you have a green thumb?
I should, seeing as it runs in the family, but sadly I don’t. I like to admire and smell beautiful flowers but watering them, planting, even differentiating between different kinds… It’s beyond me. Therefore I have no flowers on my windowsill, only urban landscape outside the window.

11- PC or Mac?

Laptop actually. Mac’s are not so popular in my country and a PC is to inconvenient when one has to frequently change apartments.

Let’s get down to writing then, shall we? 11 facts:

1. Let’s start in a style of Charles Dickens, I was born in Poland in a small town near border with Ukraine.

2. For the love of me I cannot speak Russian or Ukrainian even though I lived for 18 years near those countries.

3. I emigrated from my sleepy, little home town, to study English in a royal city of Krakow. I enjoyed my 5 years there. The experience I gained there is irreplaceable and priceless.

4. I finally settled for a capital city and am currently residing in Warsaw, occasionally thinking about running away from here but unintelligibly still staying put, year after year.

5. I am both cats and dogs person – I know I should pick sides but I simply cannot bring myself to it. Both species deserve our love and attention.

6. I am a nocturnal creature, I hate getting up early, but I can stay up to the wee morning hours. Felling fresh and creative.

7. The best ideas come to me while I’m under a shower, go figure.

8. I’m addicted to various TV shows and it pains me to go a day without watching at least one episode.

9. I love to meet new people, share common interests, discover new places and learn new things.

10. I am afraid of high places, yet I live on a 15th floor with a balcony that I frequently sit on contemplating.

11. I thought I could just start a blog as a sort of scrapbook for my writings. Not interacting, not caring about statistics nor delving too deep into the community. Boy, was I ever more wrong : ).

11 Questions from Matthew to his Nominees:

  1. Do you have a particular theme to your writing?

At first I wanted to develop as a fantasy writer, later I discovered that other genres are also fascinating and produce a nice and vast area of creativity. Although probably you can say that I am a chiefly fantasy writer, seeing as I try to put supernatural elements in virtually all my writings.

  1. Do you believe in the saying ‘No Regrets’ ?

I wish I could, but then I always regret ; ). I sometimes try to live like it is no tomorrow and make bold, irrational decisions. Unfortunately they always come back to bite me in the a**…

  1. What is your favourite season and why?

It should be winter as I was born then. However my favourite time of the year is spring when all creation wakes up and is ready for a new spell of sun, hope and unlimited possibilities.

  1. If you could play one character in any television show in the past 10 years who would it be and why?

I think it would be Kate Beckett from Castle. I admire her character. Also I always wanted to run around chasing criminals and unravel secrets behind crimes. A love sick, multimillionaire writer following her around is only an asset.

  1. Also, who would play you in a film about your life?

Claire Danes. And don’t ask me why, I can’t give you a good reason but she was the first actress that came to my mind when I read this question. Maybe because I’m also blonde?

  1. Do you believe in 2nd chances?

It depends. I don’t believe in a second chance when someone is cheating or beating the other party. I do believe in a second attempt after failing a project, work or school.

  1. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being High) how do you feel today, explain why?

About 7. Why? Because it’s Sunday and I am just relaxing at home, writing and enjoying my free time. Nothing very exciting but also nothing sad or difficult to handle.

  1. Do you have a particular routine last thing at night before bedtime?

I usually watch a TV show or a movie or read a book to help me ease into sleep. I also drink chamomile tea, green or nettle tea to calm and quiet down myself after the whole busy day.

  1. Is there one thing you know you could never achieve but want to try anyway?

Jumping out of a plane with a parachute. I am so afraid of it that I will probably never do it. However, I know I’m missing out on an unforgettable experience and an amazing view of the Earth as seen from the bird’s perspective.

  1. Does true love really exist?

If it does I have not encountered it personally yet. However I do know of a relationships that last for a life time, when the adhesive is a forever burning flame of love.

  1. If you were to meet your 10 year old self tomorrow, what is the best piece of advice you could pass on?

Honey, don’t let yourself be bothered by the malicious words of other people. 10 years from now it will have no meaning. We all shape our futures and nothing should bring us down. Especially words said with a bad faith.

Daily Prompt: Key Takeaway

Give your newer sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging.

If you’re a new blogger, what’s one question you’d like to ask other bloggers?

I am very new here, a total newbie to the world of blogging. I cannot possibly give any piece of advice but I would gladly accept any suggestion, you the experienced bloggers, can provide me with.

What I can say is that I never imagined that blogging can be so absorbing and exciting. I still think about writing here as a more of an exercise than anything else but this site is growing on me. In the beginning I was only going to write a daily writers write challenge, just to keep me in a “writing shape”. However  I discovered the daily prompt challenge along with the weekly challenge. Not to mention the cute little button “inspire me” which appears when one wants to write a post…

I guess I have lots of questions I cannot pick just one.

Let me put it like that – if you feel that you could give me some essential advice, something to keep me going, feel free to do so here. I will appreciate any and every word.

Thank you in  advance!
